Transitional Space

As we design an addition for this site, the quiet garden now occupying the space provides a welcome respite from both the late summer sun and the glare of our computer screens here at Gehrung + Graham headquarters. A focus that we find ourselves returning to again and again in our work is the idea of transitional spaces--those that connect the indoors with the out, the built with the organic. Modern research is showing what we have known for ages, that we need this connection to thrive. Opening our built environments up to the outdoors facilitates this, and creates a feeling within the space that is both tranquil and expansive.
